Our pre-professional, ballet program & curriculum provides training in:
- Ballet Technique, Variations, Pointe & Variations, Conditioning, Character & Pas de Deux. We recommend students enroll in Dance History. A lecture class taught by David Taylor.
- Our Pre-professinal Ballet Program is based on the classical traditions of the Vaganova method which focuses on the development of lower back strength, arm plasticity, flexibility and endurance.
- Ballet students are also introduced and trained in Character Dancing, a stylized representation of a traditional folk, or national dance, mostly from European countries, and uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theater.
- Character Dance is extremely important since it is such an integral part of the classical ballet repertoire. A good example of character dance in ballet is the series of national dances which take place at the beginning of Act III of Swan Lake. Don Quixote and Paquita also feature many character variations based on traditional Spanish dances. Popular character dance adaptations for ballet include the national dances of Hungary, Russia, Poland, Italy and Spain: Csardas, Mazurka, Tarantella, Polka, Habanera and Flamenco, to name a few. Character is a fun and educational class, and helps students develop their understanding of rhythm and improve their ability to express themselves on stage.
